Constructed Landscapes, an ongoing project consisting of three volumes, stems from a personal archive of photographs initially shot as mere keepsakes across different locations. Produced by collaging medium format colour negatives, the resulting images are staged landscapes, a conflation combining the ‘real’ and the imaginary. Through this work, specific places initially loaded with personal meaning and political connotations, are transformed into a space of greater universality. Blurring place, memory and time - defying specificity and referring to the transient - the work alludes to idealised and utopian spaces. In dialogue with the history of photography, Constructed Landscapes references Pictorialist processes of combination printing as well as Modernist experiments with the materiality of film. Whilst distinctly holding historical references, the work engages with contemporary discourse on manipulation and the analogue/digital divide. Beyond photographs, the work has expanded to include site-specific vinyl wallpapers and spatial interventions, photograms, studies and photographic sculptures.
The book includes 44 main colour plates from the first two volumes alongside extensive previously unpublished process material such as reproductions of contact sheets, constructed negatives and preparatory studies.

In Constructed Landscapes: Addendum, Talmor’s 2020 monograph Constructed Landscapes (pictured above Addendum), served as a catalyst to produce new work that relies on the repurposing and reimagining of redundant source material, a process integral to her practice. Activated through recurring actions performed in the colour darkroom, it extends Talmor’s exploration of voids and negative spaces. Through multiple transitions and reproductions, colour photograms made with collaged book sheets of the monograph, render the original source material — and its connotations — invisible while retaining its indexical trace. By oscillating between negatives and positives Talmor seeks to playfully blur the often-rigid boundaries and reductive relationship imposed on traditional photographic practices. Through this process, a cycle of mechanical reproduction is instigated, eventually coming full circle. Like all the work in the Constructed Landscapes series, analogue glitches and the materiality of the process come to the fore; traces of light leak out to form flares and so-called imperfections — a consequence of the hardware and optics of the darkroom—simultaneously enabling the artist’s hand to become more visible. The publication is signed and numbered and includes one risograph print (15 x 21 cm). There are four different print colours, which are randomly distributed throughout the edition.
